Goin’ Out West (And a Little North)
The NOLS bus crew has been moving through the country as normal. But the route has been sending us up to the Pacific Northwest. We left Taos, NM for the NOLS headquarters in Lander, WY. The bus needed some general maintenance performed to it, and it’s crew needed some rest and relaxation. After a fun and safe Fourth of July, the bus crew was geared up for the 15th annual International Climber’s Festival in the hometown of NOLS. There were tons of various events, from a pancake breakfast at the local crag (the climbing area) to a milk crate stacking competition.
The bus crew couldn’t resist getting involved with the antics.
Jess Blount practicing balance techniques on the slack line.
Jared Pangretic competing in the “dyno” competition.
But as the festival came to a close, we knew it was our time to leave. We headed up to the Teton Valley Branch of NOLS outside of Driggs, ID. We were fed and housed for a night by all the friendly folks who live and work there.
Then it was off to the Left Coast. Now we are sitting under Mount Adams in Trout Lake, WA. We spent last night talking to Americorp volunteers about the use of Educational awards at NOLS, while we ate dinner at their Northwest Academy campus.
It was tough leaving Lander, but our souls are built for the road. Thanks to Lindsay Nohl for letting us be involved such an amazing festival, Steve Matson for putting up with the bus and the crew that comes along with it, and everyone at the Teton Valley branch for making us feel at home after leaving Lander.
Just another day on the bus Matthew Celesta
