Join the NOLS NYC Book Group on Tuesday, February 15th at 7:30 to discuss Simon Winchester's Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883, at the Half King on W. 23rd Street.
Over a century before there was a tsunami that devastated Indonesia and other countries surrounding the Indian Ocean, the volcano Krakatoa erupted on August 27, 1883. A tsunami soon followed and
killed 40,000 people. The story became an international sensation and the natural disasters, according to Simon Winchester's book Krakatoa, was instrumental in laying the foundation for Indonesia's contemporary Islamic fundamentalist movement.
