Hey,
Just wanted to see how the posts work on this. I think I first through out the idea of going winter camping, and I don't mind being the "leader" in terms of pushing along some of the organizing and logistics, although I am not a winter camping expert, and would hope there's pleanty of people coming along who can share their experience.

The weekend of Feb 18 doesn't work for me, but i'd still love to stay in the loop on this one in case there's another trip that happens - and just to meet some people. Thanks Elyssa, for setting up the blog; and Dan for volunteering to take the lead!

I am up for the trip on the 18th wknd. I live in CT so it is hard for me to make it down for planning sessions, I will of course try once a date is set.
A couple of points:
- We may NEED to snowshoe depending on what the weather throws our way. Finding a place to rent them should be on our list of to do.
- we should carpool to avoid wasting money/valuable resources
- equipment- we probably can all come up with sufficient group gear
- food- I think that we should menu plan and then split the cost after all is bought
- As inclusive as I would like to be we should remember that in order to keep with the spirit of leave no trace we will need to limit the number of people going, or we could simply break into two groups if many people want to go...

Bar suggestion: Black Bear, (23rd & 3rd) it feels like a ski lounge - best winter bar in the city. It's going to be hard for me to make it anytime during the work week, oh the life of a "young professional". Anyone up for Friday, 2/3? That way we can really have some fun getting to know everyone.

Jessica Fried,
What's your e-mail so we can add it to the group list?
My gut is telling me this blog is a tricky way to organize events, just because it's easier for most people to simply check their e-mail, and it can get complicated scrolling through all the messages to know if something new was posted. If you post on the blog...please, make sure to put your e-mail in each post
( god781@yahoo.com ) in case someone needs to e-mail you personally, as I'm unable to get your e-mail otherwise.
I will make efforts to keep looking at the blog and will add people's comments into our group e-mails...NOT THE NOLS LIST-SERVE!!!!
If this e-mail: NYC-Talk@lists.nols.edu is in your list of e-mail recipients, you are e-mailing every person who is signed up to the NOLS listserve, and we only want to be e-mailing those people whose e-mails we have in our winter trip, so make sure you're not e-mailing the entire listserve if it pertains to this trip!
Thanks again for all who are getting involved...will be great having everyone get to meet-up.

Uh, it's a TERRIBLE idea to post your email address on this type of open page! You're guaranteeing yourself a spam tsunami! Don't do it!
Read this:

I really don't think the blog will work for organizing stuff like this... I much prefer the closed email list. The whole point of the "talk" list is exactly for this kind of thing, if people don't like it they can dump it and just subscribe to the "announce" list. I filter all my NOLS messages into a folder and read them when I have time, so they're not cluttering up my email box.
