NZSF 2 goes to the Ahuriri's
NZSF 2 have just finshed their 20 days of mountaineering in the Arrowsmith Range. From the glow of their faces you can see they are having a great time. They encountered a lot of wind, rain, snow and sun, with the windows of weather they got they managed to apply some of the technical skills they have learnt including summitting a peak and camping on glacier. When the weather proved to be challenging, they made the most of their time learning technical skills, classes on first aid, leadership and environmental studies and debated about land management issues. They were excited to say, "We learnt so much, it felt like a school!"
They have just transitioned to their hiking section, meeting up with the intown staff and resupplied their rations, fuel and sorted their hiking gear. They then drove further south to the Ahuriri conservation area. There they will spend 26 days completing the final section of their expedition. The group were excited and sad that the final section is here, they hope to make the most of their time out there hiking in the backcountry of New Zealand.
